This is the presentation of the Saint of the day for April 4, Saint Isidore of Seville by Catholic Lectionary.
Life of Saint Isidore of Seville
O Christian soul, in the year 1997, Pope John Paul II declared St Isidore of Seville the Patron Saint of the Internet.
St Isidore was the Bishop of Seville in Spain, and was known as the most learned man of his age and an ardent educationist.
He wrote a 20 book Opus Etymologies, also known as the Origins, in which he tried to record everything that was ever known.
Published after his death in 636, it was for a thousand years considered the encyclopedia of all human knowledge.
It was written in Latin, and it was a tool used by those seeking wisdom, much like the internet is now. Did you know that when Isidore was growing up, it was his elder brother, Leander, who was then the Bishop of Seville, who trained Isidore both in education and holiness?
It was said that Leander was a somewhat severe master, but see what good he made out of his younger brother.
In fact, Isidore had two brothers and a sister who were bishops and saints – St Leander, St Fulgentius and St Florentina (an Abbess).
Reflection
O Christian soul, don’t you think that it would be wonderful if you and your entire family members all become saints? Imagine how joyful you will be when you come into heaven and reunite with your family, without even one person missing.
But you need to begin now that you are still alive to work towards that heavenly family reunion. Our Lady, who is the Mother of the Holy Family knows how to unite families both here on earth and in heaven.
Speak to her daily about it through the Rosary. Are you a source of inspiration or scandal to your brothers and sisters dear?
Call for Meditation
‘If you wish peace to reign in your homes, recite the family Rosary’ [Pope St Pius X].
This day Jesus, Son of Mary, I offer you myself and my family through Mary; keep us safe both now and forever. Amen.
Having gone through this piece about saint of the day for April 4, Saint Isidore of Seville make effort O Christian soul to amend your life. Peace of Christ be with you.
