This is the presentation of the Saint of the day for March 29, Saint Rupert by Catholic Lectionary.
Life of Saint Rupert
O Christian soul, in my study of the lives of the Saints, I came across a lot of martyrs and also a lot of saintly bishops in the month of March. Two lessons did I learn from the above discoveries.
- To become a martyr by rejecting the sweet temptations of the devil and of the world and to die to myself daily, so that I can rise with my Lord Jesus on the day of resurrection. How can I die to myself? By living a life of prayer, life of charity and denying myself even those good things that I need, for the sake of Jesus.
- To pray for the Church, for our priests and for our bishops. St Rupert was the bishop of Salzburg. He was a missionary bishop and he was said to have recorded a series of great successes in his ministry because he had a great support from the Duke of the country where he and his companions took the gospel to.
In fact, the Duke not only welcomed him, he listened to his preaching, converted and became baptized into Christianity. The bishop was given lands to build churches, monastery and school. The people of the land gave their support too and a lot of conversions were made.
Reflection
Which bishop will not succeed in a favourable environment? How can Christianity thrive in a land where the people reject the bishop given to them by the Church in order to enthrone a bishop of their own choice; or in a land where bishops are assassinated and thrown into the river, making it look like suicide?
O Christian Soul, let us join hands together to pray for and support the Church by supporting our priests and our bishops. Never think you are doing any good job by fighting or opposing his priests or bishops. It attracts curses. Beware!
Call for Meditation
‘The saved are few, but we must live with the few if we would be saved with the few. O God, too few indeed they are: yet amongst those few I wish to be!’ [St Alphonsus Maria de Liguori].
This day Jesus, my Hope, may I never lose You on the Last Day. Amen.
Having gone through this piece about saint of the day for March 29, make effort O Christian soul to amend your life. Peace of Christ be with you.
